About Rebinding
Rebinding Terms
Rebinding a Bible is performed for many reasons. Sometimes it needs to happen because a Bible has fallen into a state where it is no longer usable in it's current condition and requires the cover being removed so repairs can be made. Other times, just a new look is desired for an existing Bible.
It can be. A full rebind can be costly but it can also be affordable. Factors such as type of leather, amount of repair, other customization, and time all contribute to the overall cost of a rebind with the type of leather being the most costly part of a rebind. Most basic repairs, however, are fairly easy to perform and are usually inexpensive because they do not require many resources or much time. Ask before getting a full rebind because a simple repair may be all you need!
I have been rebinding Bibles on and off again as a hobby since 2024.
My goal is to eventually start a small business and to sell my rebinding service, but I am not quite ready to do that yet. For now, I am still rebinding my family's and friend's Bibles as well as my own while I build my skill set. Come back later and maybe I'll be ready then, but as for now, I am using this site to document my journey.
Typically, I use various goat skins and calfskins for the outer cover and either goat skins or lamb skins for the inside liner of the cover. All the leather I use is high-quality leather from reputable sources & vendors.
Leather is my primary way of rebinding a Bible, however, I can make hardcover with book cloth.
